You could've realistically kept the site up without shutting it down, sure, it would be dead, but shutting it down for a month, closing it after a week, and shutting it back down for a month, nobody is even sure what you'll do next. The best option is to not repay for the servers, and abandon the website. Setup an archive if you want. But it's time to let go.
